Made with just the yogurt of your choice and refreshing fruit, these fruit swirl yogurt popsicles are a delicious and nutritious, sugar-free frozen dessert!

Frozen popsicles are one of my favorite go-to summer desserts, and with my 100% fruit popsicles being a hit, here are some yogurt popsicles that are still super healthy, but creamier and rich. All you need is some yogurt of your choice (dairy or vegan!) and your favorite fruit, and away you go. However, this post will also include ideas for additional ingredients and ways to pimp your homemade frozen yogurt popsicles- for endless options!

Not only do they look and taste amazing, but they’re also a great way to sneak in fruits and nutrients into your ‘snacks’ too – which makes them a big win-win in my eyes. I’ve also kept mine as sugar-free frozen yogurt. However, if you want to add some additional sweetness naturally – then I’ve got options for that, too!

The Frozen Yogurt Popsicles Ingredients

It probably doesn’t surprise you to learn that the vital ingredient of these yogurt fruit lollies is yogurt. I always use plain yogurt and add extra flavor with my fruits. Full fat, low-fat, and even fat-free yogurts will all work. However, the texture will vary slightly (as fat content usually means softer popsicles).

Some Plain Yogurt options include (I always use homemade):

Next, to flavor the yogurt, we have fresh fruit. I include a whole long list of fruit options in my fruit Ice Pops post. However, some of my favorites fruits are:

Squares of fruit

  • Mango
  • Pineapple
  • Strawberry
  • Raspberry
  • Blueberry
  • Peach
  • Cherry
  • passion fruit ( to decorate)

Different fresh berries types

Then finally, the other (completely optional) base ingredient would be a natural sweetener. I prefer sugar-free frozen yogurt, but for those that want a sweeter treat, you could use:

  • Maple Syrup
  • Honey (if not vegan)
  • Agave syrup
  • Erythritol (keto-friendly)

Sugar content will help to provide softer textured frozen popsicles too.

Other Frozen Popsicle Additions

Once you have your base down, then you can get creative with any ‘additional’ elements. I like to add ingredients for a bit of extra crunch, or sometimes just additional nutrients. Options include:

  • Chia Seeds – for added protein and nutrients
  • Granola/ puffed quinoa/ chopped nuts– for crunch and flavor
  • Veggies – blend some spinach or kale into a green fruit popsicle for lots of additional nutrients
  • Nut butter – i.e., almond butter or peanut butter with blueberries or raspberries makes for delightful ‘PBJ’ style frozen popsicles.
  • Chocolate – Either using sugar-free Dark chocolate, or your favorite white/milk chocolate or chocolate chips to melt and dip into slightly ( usually just the tip of the ice pop), for an extra treat.
  • Vanilla – Either vanilla extract, powder, or seeds – for an additional dessert-like flavor twist.

Is Frozen Yogurt Healthy?

Frozen yogurt is essentially as healthy as the yogurt you decide to use. Traditionally, though, frozen yogurt is a low-fat version of ice-cream that everyone can enjoy. Even the highest fat content yogurt is often far lower than the ingredients used in traditional ice-cream- making it a healthier alternative to ice-cream.

More than that, frozen yogurt also provides additional health benefits, in terms of the active cultures found within the product. While there may be some loss in the freezing process, it does retain a level of active cultures. Plus, it’s additional ‘tangy’ flavor can mean less sugar and ‘unhealthy’ additives are needed.

While these yogurt popsicles aren’t the traditional soft-serve fro-yo – they have literally frozen yogurt- the idea is the same.

How To Make The Healthy Fruit Swirl Yogurt Popsicles

This post contains the idea for three different ice pop flavor combinations. However, once you have the base ratios figured out, then the sky is the limit. Keep your pops simple with a single fruit, or mix it up. Add some extra ingredients (check the section above for ideas), or don’t – the choice is up to you.

If you try a different fruit or ‘decoration’ for every new batch, you’ll never get bored of these simple fruity frozen yogurt popsicles!

What’s Needed

fruit

  • Any unsweetened, regular yogurt – for these, I used natural yogurt. Feel free to use dairy-free.
  • Blueberries, raspberries, mango
  • Optional: Extra berries and other fruit for decoration, homemade granola, or puffed quinoa

The Steps

Begin by separating the yogurt in three bowls. Mash the fruits either by hand for a chunkier texture of with a blender and add to the bowls.

Mixing yogurt and fruit

For a fruit swirl effect, simply stir only a few times. Otherwise, you can fully incorporate it by mixing well.

Taste each to your liking – If you feel it needs a little extra fruit or some sweetener, then add that now and mix again ( add the sweetener directly to the fruit puree for fruit swirl ice pops).

Mixed yogurt with berries

Decoration option 1: You can add extra fruit to the bottom (front) of the popsicle molds. For example- strawberry hearts, kiwi, dragonfruit, passionfruit, etc.

You’d get a delicious tutti frutti frozen yogurt popsicle.

Decoration Option 2: Add granola or puffed quinoa to the top (after the yogurt it is) or bottom of the mold

Then, fill up the ice lolly mold with the yogurt mixes.

Freeze for at least 3-4 hours and then enjoy your rainbow ice lollies!

How To Store

Once the lollies are frozen, you can remove them from the silicone molds. Place them in a freezer-safe airtight container for 1-2 months.

A box/glass container will take less space than multiple molds. Plus, they are airtight- to save the pops from freezer burn.

Recipe Notes & Variations

  • I prefer to use plain yogurt for these yogurt popsicles, using the fruit to add extra flavor. However, you can always use flavored yogurt, too, if preferred. Just be aware that this will change the nutritional value of the popsicles.
  • These homemade frozen yogurt popsicles are super versatile- mix and match fruits for different flavor combinations. OR, combine lots of different fruits into a single pop for a tutti frutti frozen yogurt popsicle.
  • If you want to use chia seeds - mix into the yogurt and allow to thicken for 30 minutes before freezing.
  • For additional flavor, you can try grilled/ baked fruits - such as grilled peaches or apricots.
  • If you don't want to fully incorporate the fruit and yogurt - lightly chop/mash your fruit and combine with honey or another liquid sweetener then leave to sit for 30-45 minutes and 'macerate' into a kind of jam. Then simply spoon in little bits of the fruit jam and yogurt into the molds then swirl.

  1. How can you say it’s sugar free when the recipe calls for a sweetener? I am beyond tired of thinking I’ve foind a real no sugar added recipe to just have it ask for sweetener. Ugh!

    1. Hi Jennifer,
The basic recipe is completely sugar-free – only fruit and yogurt. That’s the way I like the popsicles. However, I’ve noted that, as a completely optional add-in, one can add their preferred sweetener so the recipe is made to their taste. I hope you still give this a try. 🙂

  2. I saw you on the cooking show and tried your rainbow salad as well as the no bake pasta dish, I love the results of the flavor, thank you for your creative ways to eat clean
