  • Just 3 ingredients: Oreos, milk, and baking powder (plus salt).
  • Simple: The simplest mug cake ever, with just 4 fuss-free steps.
  • Quick: It’s ready in literally 2 minutes.
  • Adaptable: E.g., use dairy-free milk for an instantly delicious vegan treat.
  • Satisfying: A perfect low-fuss treat to satisfy chocolate cravings.
  • Single-serve: Perfect for last-minute cravings

Ingredients

Ingredients for oreo mug cake
  • Oreo cookies: I used classic Oreos, but flavored varieties (like mint Oreos or golden Oreos) would work fine, too.
  • Milk: I used whole milk, but feel free to use 2%. By using non-dairy milk (like soy milk, almond milk, or oat milk), you can turn this Oreo microwave cake vegan.
  • Baking powder: This ensures the mug cake texture is fluffier and more cakey rather than dense and chewy. It’s technically optional but highly recommended.
  • Salt: Just a pinch to balance and enhance the chocolatey Oreo flavor.

How to make an Oreo mug cake

Prepare the mug cake: First, crush the Oreos into a microwave-safe mug or small bowl. You can break them into chunks or into a more fine crumb. Either way, they’ll become mushy when the milk is added.

Then, add the milk to the Oreo crumbs and mix it into a paste with a fork. Stir in the salt and baking powder until a homogeneous batter is formed.

Cook the mug cake: Microwave the batter for 90 seconds on HIGH until it’s just set, then leave it to rest for 1 minute. Adjust the timings + or – 10 seconds if needed, depending on your microwave’s wattage/power. Also, be cautious when handling the mug, as it will be hot!

Enjoy the dessert, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and/or whipped cream!

Notes

Use the right container: Use a high-sided microwave-safe mug or bowl.
Eat it immediately: Mug cakes don’t store very well and are designed to be a quick treat. When left, this becomes harder/chewier.
If you want to make prep even shorter: You could create little Ziplocks of all the prepared dry ingredients (crushed Oreos, baking powder, salt). When ready to make, just pour it into a mug, add milk, stir, and microwave.
Allow it to rest: To avoid burning your hands or mouth.
Course: Dessert, Snack
Cuisine: American
Freezer friendly: No
Shelf life: Eat Immediately
