A jar with homemade cinnamon butter.

You might already know that I love to make food from scratch. And I love making butter—I first learned how to make butter at home using cream. Since then, I’ve experimented with many compound butter ideas, like homemade vanilla butter.

Next on my list was this cinnamon butter, and it’s so worth making! It’s a Texas Roadhouse copycat with a personal touch, and it’s just as delicious as the famous Texas Roadhouse butter.

This recipe is incredibly easy and quick to make. After mixing the ingredients, it’s perfect for spreading on many things! Plus, you can customize it to your family’s flavor palette.

I love cinnamon butter on my healthy banana bread and my easy French toast recipe. It is also an excellent addition to many other recipes, sweet and savory.

Ingredients

A photo of the ingredients for cinnamon butter.
  • Butter: Use your favorite store-bought unsalted butter or learn how to make butter at home.
  • Cinnamon: The star of the show. Use fresh powdered cinnamon for the tastiest results.
  • Honey: Use high-quality honey with a flavor you love (since honey can vary!) or substitute maple syrup.
  • Powdered sugar: If you can’t find powdered sugar (aka confectioners’ sugar or icing sugar), you can make powdered sugar at home by blending granulated sugar into fine powder.
  • Extras: I love to add some vanilla powder, salt (to enhance the flavors), and nutmeg (completely optional).

How to make cinnamon butter

First, soften the butter so it’s easier to whip. Leave it out at room temperature for a while before starting the process (30-40 minutes). Alternatively, microwave a bowl or measuring cup filled with water for around two minutes. Remove it from the microwave, drain the water, and then put the warm bowl over the butter. Check out all my tips on how to soften butter quickly.

Mix and Whip the Ingredients: Next, combine all the ingredients in a medium bowl. Use a hand whisk and whip the mixture vigorously for a few minutes until it becomes light and creamy.

Taste and Adjust Flavors: Taste and adjust the flavors as needed, adding more cinnamon or sugar to your preference.

Shape or Store the Butter: Once the cinnamon sugar butter is ready, transfer it to a butter container or a jar or shape it into a log using plastic wrap. Then, it’s ready to serve or store in the fridge.

Serve at Room Temperature: I recommend serving the cinnamon butter at room temperature for easy spreading. So make sure to take it out of the refrigerator 15-30 minutes in advance.

What to serve cinnamon butter with

There are tons of ways to enjoy this homemade cinnamon honey butter. It’s amazing for both sweet and savory dishes.

  • With bread and baked goods: Spead it on banana bread, muffins, scones, or homemade croissants. It makes a great appetizer with these quick dinner rolls.
  • Spread over sweet treats: For added deliciousness, spread it on cinnamon rolls, baked apples, or roasted vegetables.
  • Top roasted vegetables: This is an excellent addition to mashed sweet potatoes or oven-baked carrots.
  • With breakfast dishes: Add a spoonful to pancakes or waffles. Top your French toast or add it to your morning oats.
